GLIMPSES BY DIANA AYRES

Mesquite Art Gallery is pleased to present our current exhibition Glimpses.

Featuring works by Diana Ayres and featuring the Swamp Coolers who mix rock ‘n’ roll, Americana, reggae, poetry, and jam-band improvisation. Mesquite Art Gallery, 340 N. Mesquite Street, Las Cruces.

Opening: First Friday, October 2nd 4-8pm.

The show Glimpses leans heavily on the concept of miksang.  An image catches the eye.  Without analyzing it or arranging it, one records it immediately on camera.  The concept shows what was remarkable enough to catch one’s attention in the first place and teaches us to be alert to everydayness. Diana was born long ago in a faraway place (East Coast).  Her first attempt at making art a vocation was to sell her photos of a tragic event:  the turkey barn next door burning to the ground.  She was nine and the local paper rejected her efforts.  Undaunted, she took courses along the way, improved some, and finally enrolled in Art in her late fifties at Houston Community College.  When she and her husband retired to Las Cruces, she had time to concentrate on making art and joined like-minded groups including the Ten O’clock Club.
